15th place on the SpaceJam! :D

Sooo Nilay got 15th place on the SpaceJam :) That makes me really proud, it's my first time on a game jam and it got some pretty nice comments. I wanted to learn how it was like and try to work with some friends on a short project. That didn't go so well, though. One friend didn't show up and the other didn't do much apart from defining the concept. I loved working with Nelson (my room mate, who's studying music interpretation) on the music. We worked together on finding the style and he did an excellent job composing and recording the music!

I think the mechanics of the game could have been a little polished. It's actually hard doing a balancing game because it has to feel intuitive, as you need to react fast. It wasn't very clear how to keep the elephant still (despite my try to explain it simply at the start of the game).

Anyway, I will be working on it some more. I still have to add sound to the birds, improve some of the graphics and add more backgrounds. I think it would be very fun to tell the story of how Nilay discovers the wonders of nature while realizing it's her home. It's deeply related with how I see the world. Animals and other living beings are being displaced and dying because our ignorance and irresponsibility. We're failing to see the damage we make because we're only worried about ourselves and our own pleasures (the circus) and that we actually need to return to the nature world and learn from it instead of trying to control and dominate it, as we have been doing for several centuries now.

That's it! Tell me what you liked about the game and what you would like to see in it :) Bye!
